Mellow Blues
There’s naked ladies dancing in the corner and they’re making smile
There’s nothin’ more pleasing than the sentimental smell of desire
The crust on my fingers makes me wanna scratch some more
But the naked lady, in the corner… she wants more
Desire shackled to the turning, and the yearning uncompleted makes me sane
And I find myself cryin’ and a-shakin’ in the corner… what a shame
And the ladies they cry out they say “Come on down, come on down the stairs”
My footsteps are heavy and I’m gettin’ a tingle – back of my hair
Yeah… come on
Desire is a curtain, and it’s hurtin’, and it’s ready to tear
Jesus is a-standin’ right behind it and he’s starting to stare
High up in the arches there are angels who are terribly kind
As the stairs creak, I hear them sing a song that sends me outa my mind
I’ve got the mellow blues
I’ve got the mellow blues
I’ve got the mellow blues
I’ve got the mellow blues
There’s naked ladies dancing in the corner and they’re making me stare
But as the blues start a churnin’, yes I’m turnin’ I go back up the stairs
Yeah… come on
I’ve got the mellow blues
I’ve got the mellow blues
I’ve got the mellow blues
I’ve got the mellow blues
I’ve got the yeah
hey heyia yeah hey yeah
Hey… I’ve got the mellow blues
Come on got the mellow blues
You feelin” mellow?
Come on dance with me
I’ve got the mellow blues
I’ve got the mellow blues
Liner Notes
Influences for this track
“Aww man I love this track and don’t really know where it came from. I was playing around with all the loops… strectching and cutting and fitting them together like a manic puzzle…
The vocals are hugely influenced by Nick Cave, who I have enjoyed since the early days in Melbourne, live at The Crystal Ballroom. There is even a lyrical reference to the song Dig, Lazarus, Dig with the stairs… somehow…
But then I really LOVE Warren Ellis and how he just creates those maniac, insane noises on the above mentioned track. Lead on another level.
So I experimented with pedals and amps etc and found some semblance of what I could hear in my head and that is what you hear in this track as the monster-like lead stuff.”
